advocates for recovery CO

Urban Peaks Rehab was fortunate enough to participate in the 2018 National Rally for Recovery in Denver as an official recovery ally with Advocates for Recovery Colorado (check out our events page for photos!!). Additionally, we participated in their media trainings, sign making parties, and all recovery meetings and we cannot say enough great things about this organization.

For our patients and partners who do not know about this recovery resource, Advocates for Recovery Colorado (AFR Colorado) is a peer-run, non-profit organization, and the first authentic Recovery Community Organization in our state. AFR started in 2001 with a handful of dedicated folks who recognized that the most difficult part of the road to recovery began after the individual had stopped using alcohol and other drugs.

AFR Colorado has remained dedicated to helping people who are in search of recovery from addiction and those who are living a life of recovery. The organization offers support and services to individuals and family members suffering from active addiction, as well as the growing pains of early recovery. Additionally, AFR Colorado advocates for statewide and national policies that will enhance access to treatment and recovery support services.

Lead by executive director Tonya Wheeler since 2009, and James Gannon Peer Recovery Coach since 2012, AFR Colorado’s ‘celebrating all pathways to recovery’ approach offers a community of understanding and support for any person in any stage of their recovery journey.
